Kambah village has so much potential, a couple of cafes would be really good.
Kambah Village does need a facelift…I’m thinking something a bit more alternative than flashy…will be interesting to see what they come up with.
Hi Everyone, in response to the query as to whether Songland (and our popular Ticketek agency) is closing down-the answer is no! (but we ain’t gonna be remaining in the Hyperdome, we’re moving to the remodelled Cooleman Court). Cheers, Frog. P.S. we have a songland records facebook fan page where we keep everyone up to date on gigs and stuff etc. Cheers, Frog.

I agree. I have noticed that empty stores have been filled. But the issue isn’t localised only to the Dome, Homeworld is also suffers from ‘the gaps’ too. The buildings across from the cafe strip are I’d say are at least half empty – but i’d put that down to consolidation of public servants into the Caroline Chisholm centre.
The issue is population in the town centre. That’s being tackled in recent years by the townhouses and the two or three (i forget) storey apartment blocks. However I think that higher density housing is needed – perhaps one or two towers of apartments are needed, like the new apartment towers over near the Rydges hotel but maybe half or three quarters the height.

(I reckon a JB-HIFI would do wonders)..
Definitely. So often I’ll decide to go further to Woden when I want to go to the shops, purely because of JB Hifi.

Went into Coles there today and was back out five minutes later because their range was shocking. One very short row of “baked in store” breads. Woolies wasn’t much better..
The entire town centre is a dead-zone.
I am frequent visitor to the centre. I’m 19 years old.
The Hyperdome has poor atmosphere, insufficient seating for visitors, a poorly placed cinema and not enough stores that really bring people into the centre (I reckon a JB-HIFI would do wonders). I also often forget about the lower level of the centre. Just a 1990s Woolworths, Best and less, empty stores and not to mention Stan the Hairdresser 🙂
Stores just look run down too. Target looks like crap, Kmart I swear is getting more empty and Coles just feels so dull and I hate the entire building that The Good Guys is in.
So many stores have closed down in the last 2-3 years. Especially on the lower level.
Songland records is going too! I don’t know if they are moving or just finishing for good.
Westfield just needs to buy the centre.
By food hall I do not mean quick snack/fast food, I mean places to buy the substance of the weekly menu, wholesome well produced and marketed ingredients to take home and nourish our families. Places such as greengrocers, butchers, delicatessens, decent bakers that can do better than a squashed up window soft white pap. A forlorn hope perhaps, it’d be easier to increase my carbon footprint and drivie to the Farmers markets than expect that sort of miracle at the hyperdome…
A decent food hall would be good not just the usual 2 suspects crouching at either end of the shopping centre. Why can’t Tuggeranong support decent providers like a deli and a greengrocer that isn’t hidden away like we are ashamed of it. (Shame we couldn’t keep the asian grocer going) I really have to gather my strength before I go in to grocery shop a very unpleasant environment indeed.

Take off and nuke the site from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.
Hold on one second. That installation has a substantial dollar value attached to it.
They can bill me!
Erindale is very handy to me and has hassle-free, free parking when I tend to go there. It has a nice vibe and is clean and tidy. I also like the bakery next to Woolies (excellent hot x buns and other yummy goodies)!
Agreed with #3 re blocking off that road near the Maram – if not both ends then at least the one at Mobil. The amount of near misses at that intersection I’ve witnessed are unbelievable. As for the Erindale centre itself, I noticed they’ve been replacing the false ceiling over the last week or two.
Hyperdome got a bit of interior work last year I think, but they really could do a lot more work with Southlife – the place is bustling on the weekends, but look across the road and the majority of shopfronts are empty, and one building in particular, apparently named ‘Centrepoint’ looks incredibly shabby. I’d like to see more restaurants, cafes etc on that side too. And ditch the bus interchange and give us a nice westfield belco-esque transit lounge.
As for Kambah, do something about that horrendous Woolies for starters.

I noticed pre Xmas the “Don’t beliebe the HYPErdome” was almost full. I was amazed they filled the 57 empty shops. Seems now that they are staring to empty out again with 3 stores leaving this week.
After talking to several retailers, this is the tip of the iceberg. It is going to get much much worse over the next few months.
Thats probably to do with the age shift from Tuggeranong to Gungahlin. Less kids/young people and a shifting age demographic in the ‘nappy valley’ means some shops simply wont survive there any more.
The Village is screaming for a makeover. Would be nice if the revamped the Woolies there too.
I live in Wanniassa but avoid Erindale like the plague. The awkward design can’t handle the amount of traffic it gets.

Erindale needs a complete workover, its ancient, dirty and totally unattractive to be around.
The “Hippy’ dome isnt so hip these days and needs a fresh do-over as well. I like the southlife addition on the main drag there but its kindof pointless when it doesnt extend past there.
Erindale Shopping Centre would benefit greatly if they blocked the road behind near the Maram and made the entire area into a car park. This is an extremely popular place on Thursday and Friday nights and there are usually no parks for any patrons.
+1 Athrak The place is a dump and about as attractive to visit as going to the dentist for root canal work without anaesthetic.
I know the Hyperdome could do with a serious revamp. It looks like it’s 50 years old. I went over to Belco Westfield the other day, and was surprised at how new it looks – been a year or two since I’ve been there, and noticed carpets, more extensions, the hyperdome looks horrible in comparison. I know Woolworths is getting a renovation come June, but i’d like to see it extended to the rest of the place as well.
