ACTPol_Traffic is reporting on Twitter that “Uriarra Road, Point Hut Road, and Cotter Road now open” as the city dries out.
With the dams over-brimming any further rain is going to fit the rivers hard and fast though.

Sunshine Road was closed when I popped down there today but I was able to drive across. I’ll send in some photos from there.
Well done..not. The road is closed for a reason. Only a fool disregards the signs and drives access anyway! There may be damage that you can not see. We do not need any more time spent of rescuing people from foolish endevours.
We are still stuck here at Smiths Road, The Angle – http://www.flickr.com/photos/25223017@N00/sets/72157616017300526/detail/

Oh wow, I know I’m behind in the times when even the Govt is using Twitter and I’m not. Haha.
Besides, Point Hut was open yesterday cos I crossed the bridge.
Or maybe that shows just how un-cool twitter is?

No doubt has something to do with liability. Nothing else down that road so if people go down there, cause a jam and have a crash, government get’s hit with a lawsuit.
That said, by 3pm, those barricades had been moved aside by members of the public anyway and 30+ vehicles were down there at any given time.
I understand the need for flashing lights and gates at Point Hut Crossing but why the road barricades at the top of the road. Many people like to look at the river – from the gates. Roadblock barricades just make people walk further and do nothing to stop access or improve safety. For the record, they’re not legally correct because they do not display indicative signage.
