Just wanted to express my disappointment in SC10 not showing the Rugby World Cup in HD.
I’m surprised you can even buy the rights without showing it in HD.

Oh, yes….easy on hingo! 🙂
Sorry. I seem to have flown off the handle there.
I’m pro all sports – especially if both chicks are hot.
But, seriously*, Happy to watch the F1 as well, but if SC10 say it is HD, then they should put it in HD.
* Subtle plug for channel 10.
Yeah easy on PigDog! FFS!! 😉
I think you meant to refer to me justbands. No worries. Although, I think the Italian Grand Prix would draw more interest than a Samoa vs South Africa walkover match. Each to their own.
Easy on PigDog….I wasn’t having a stab (& no, not the kind of person who beat anyone at all up!). I was just making the point that when there are multiple sports happening in the same timeslot, that the one with higher interest will usually win out.
Since they aren’t doing the rugby in HD, they could be doing the F1 in HD and showing the rugby at the same time in SD. Why don’t they do that?
Because our lame-arse federal pollies wet themselves when old man packer got on the blower and told them he didn’t want multi-channel broadcasting over free to air.
Has unfortunate consequences on his advertising revenue.
Packer Jr has seen the writing on the wall and is rapidly removing himself from the FTA TV business.

Calm down mate I was having a laugh. No need to be a prick. Were you the kind of jock at school who beat up kids who didn’t play rugby?
> Yeah its the World Cup…and F1 is the World Drivers Championship. Stuff the World Cup I say!
Ever stopped to think why they put Rugby (or AFL) ahead of car races? It’s because they rate better, people actually want to watch them. Basically, you’ll just have to get over it.
Yeah its the World Cup…and F1 is the World Drivers Championship. Stuff the World Cup I say!
As long as I can see the ball – and the bloke who’s got it – then I’m happy. 16:9, 4:3, HD, SD – won’t help us win the RWC!
One other thing. The SD transmission is NOT in wide screen. Given that HD camera use 16×9 as their native ratio, this indicates that the original broadcast is probably not in HD and is instead a cheap 4×3 satellite broadcast.
I would be surprised if they were actually showing it on the HD channel. For two reasons:
1. Satelite streaming of HD (simulcast with SD) takes up greater bandwidth and is more expensive. This applies to the transmission from France to Ten in Sydney however. If the commentators are saying it’s in HD, then perhaps it’s just SC not showing it in HD. On the other hand, many people believe digital is always HD. They could be confused.
2. Few ads are in HD and currently, no ads are displayed about 99% of the time on SC HD. They instead use a loop. This means that not only are they paying extra to stream the HD, but they are making less advertising dollars for providing it.
Dante – It is weird that High Def Rugby looks a lot like the Annual Cootamundra Wattle Show on a loop.
Why set up a HD channel when you aren’t going to show anything (apart from Australian Idol) on it? I am really not sure why Channel 10 can broadcast it, but SC10 can not.
I agree DawnDrifter. I knew Channel 10 would screw us F1 fans. So much for the home of motorsport. Unfortunately, Channel 7 got the V8’s and its also treated second to the AFL. Hell, they even cut races short so it won’t cut into an AFL match! What a joke! Motorsport on free to air TV has gone to shit.
What’s even more confusing is that the commentators have mentioned that it’s streaming in ‘digital high-definition’ a few times now.. I keep flicking to SC10 HiDef and finding that irritating loop video.
Hooray for Southern Cross Broadcasting! *thumbs up*
Id like to express my disappointment that they showed Samoa vs SA instead of the formula1 at Monza!! wouldnt have had a problem if it was say AUS vs the unwashed… fkn pricks!
