Searching for LIVE vongole in cbr

As above! I can find ‘fresh’ vongole/clams but they’re never alive (tried all the fish/seafood shops at and around fyshwick mkt). Any ideas?

Vongole are a little different to pippis. Smaller, corrugated shell and less meat inside….but much sweeter than regular pippis. They are pretty hard to come by but I have seen them in the fish section at Jardin Fresh Life at Tuggies and at Belco Markets from time to time. I would ask the fish monger about it as they will sometimes advise you when they expect to get specialty items (they do the same for me with large octopus). Good luck !.

Every now and then (read rarely) I get live pippies from the fisho at Belconnen markets. Occasionally they are a tad sandy, but a good rinse fixes them. They usually have “fresh” ones and often have NZ clams which are a touch sweeter than the local ones.

If you want a regular supply of live ones, take a bucket to the beach and learn the pippie dance.
