ACT Policing refers to a business unit of the AFP. Police officers in the ACT are AFP. Simple.

All officers assigned to the ACT are under contract to the ACT Government but remain Commonwealth Officers sworn to the AFP and wearing AFP uniform.
When assaulted, the offence is “assault of a Commonwealth official”.
The Chief Police Officer is an assistant commissioner within the AFP.

The ACT has not had a distinct police force since 1979.

The ACT Government has to do more to clean up the Northbourne flats. One the one hand, they are bending over backwards (and forwards) for developers to build thousands of postage stamp size apartments around here, with the objective of ‘sustainable’ housing – which is overwhelmingly reliant on people walking into the city. Let me tell you, I don’t walk anywhere around here after 10pm. If the Govt truly wants to achieve their aim, they have to put a helluva lot more elbow grease into making this an area where people can feel safe.

Jesus, relax, we aren’t a jury. A trial will still be taking place. And yes, assumptions will be made because with such limited information that’s all the general public has to work on.

If he pulls a knife on a cop he’s a dickhead anyway, so i’ll consider my private trial complete.

… and considering the Police knew he/they stole exactly $21 and a phone means they probably had a confession (or the theft proceedings), from the first guy. How else would they know that? Getting that is pretty good proof of some sort of guilt (along with the weapons!).
And if they got a confession from the first guy they probably also got the name/location etc of the second dude with it?
Lets face it, these weren’t criminal masterminds who pulled off a well-planned robbery. How wacked out and out-of-touch would you have to be to still have the (suspected) weapons still in your house? Or not be on the run in another State (not Qbn!) if you knew your accomplice was knicked?

The guy obviously has no remorse or concerns about the murder – instead of hiding out somewhere, he’s still wandering around in broad daylight, and then whips out a knife when confronted?! Amazing….

Presumably ACT Policing members are also sworn as “Special Constables” for surrounding NSW – Just as NSW Police based in Queanbeyan are sworn as “Special Constables” here. That means they can exercise police powers in the other jurisdiction, but any offender is still subject to that jurisdiction’s court system.

This arrangement for ACT Police to be able to arrest a suspect interstate (Queanbeyan only, I presume), but not take them back into the ACT sounds strange to me. Is anyone able to enlighten me?

I hope this piece of scum is duly tried and jailed for a long time too.
