ACT Policing has arrested a 25-year-old Hughes man after a theft in Fyshwick earlier this afternoon (Friday, January 6).
Around 1pm, the 58-year-old female victim was carrying a cashbag containing business takings on Maryborough St, when the bag was snatched from her grasp.
The offender ran from the area and was seen to enter a green Holden Commodore on Newcastle St, and then quickly drove away. A witness was able to obtain the registration details of the vehicle and provided this information to police.
A short time later, police located the vehicle parked at a house in Lynch Street, Garran where the alleged offender and a 23-year-old Lyons woman were located and taken into custody.
Police later executed a search at the house and located a sawn-off shotgun concealed in plastic piping buried in the back garden.
The 23-year-old woman has been released pending further investigations.
The man was conveyed to the ACT Watch House and is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with theft. Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police and can assist the investigation are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au
