The stop-work notice on Geocon’s Republic construction site has been partially lifted on Wednesday (24 July), nearly two weeks after the notice was issued.
On 11 July, Access Canberra shut down Geocon’s Republic construction site in Belconnen, stating that construction was inconsistent with the development and building approvals.
A Geocon spokesperson said the stop-work notice relates to “minor, technical issues on a submitted DA amendment”.
Access Canberra said work is expected to recommence on the site soon after the development and building approvals were amended as required.
Small areas of the site remain shut down as a result of pending development approval conditions.

ACT Construction Occupations Registrar Ben Green said the action taken by Access Canberra demonstrated enforcement activity will be undertaken on sites, including where builders do not build in accordance with the development and building approvals.
“We will continue to investigate this matter to determine how the building work was able to be undertaken inconsistent with the development and building approvals,” he said.
“I’d like to remind all builders and developers to ensure that all necessary development and building approvals are in place to support compliant development in the ACT.”
The Republic site on Eastern Valley Way, Belconnen is a $1 billion, mixed-use residential construction project, with 750 purchasers already having bought an apartment.
