ACT Policing noted a significant improvement in the general demeanour and driving behaviour of patrons at the annual Summernats festival, which concluded in Canberra yesterday.
Police issued 262 Traffic infringement Notices across the ACT over the Summernats period, compared with 349 for the same period last year.
During the event, police made two arrests outside the perimeter; one relating to a repeat disqualified driver and another relating to the possession of a knife in a public place. Five people were placed in protective custody for intoxication.
Police received two reports of assault but in both cases, the complainants did not wish to provide further details.
The Traffic Operations Compliance Targeting Team (CTT) was active throughout the Summernats period, with the RAPID number plate recognition technology deployed.
During the four-day period, 20,566 vehicles were scanned by RAPID. The RAPID team identified 24 unregistered vehicles, 12 vehicles without Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance and six unlicensed drivers. Traffic Operations, working in co-operation with ACT motor vehicle inspectors, detected 50 unroadworthy vehicles.
