Police have arrested a third person after a group of weapon-wielding youths allegedly broke into a man’s home in central Canberra and assaulted him.

Jack Brian Cant, a 22-year-old from Conder, was allegedly found hiding underneath a house before he was arrested over the incident.

ACT Policing said about 8:30 am on 16 June, police heard three males were allegedly breaking into a unit on MacArthur Avenue in Turner.

The group allegedly entered the unit and assaulted the male occupant, resulting in injuries that required hospitalisation.

Three males ran from the scene when police arrived and the officers gave chase.

Officers allegedly found two people, a 17-year-old boy and 21-year-old Brodie Job from Chisholm, hiding under cars at a building on Northbourne Avenue and arrested them.

Both were handed charges over their alleged roles in the home invasion before Mr Job was granted bail.

Police continued to investigate the identity of the third man before raiding a home in Conder on Sunday (6 July).

During the search, Cant was allegedly found in a crawl-space under the home, but he surrendered to police after a short negotiation.

He was charged with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm by joint commission and burglary when he faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday (7 July).

His lawyer, from Legal Aid, said he was not going to apply for bail.

Special Magistrate Sean Richter remanded him in custody and adjourned the matter to 4 August. No pleas were entered.

Cant mouthed words to a woman sitting in the courtroom’s gallery before he was led away, while Mr Job came into the courtroom to watch the proceedings.
