Early tomorrow morning (Sunday, 18 May), vehicles will once again be able to travel in both directions between Commonwealth and Constitution avenues.
The eastern section of the Raising London Circuit project is now complete after more than 60,000 cubic metres of fill were delivered to the site, elevating the road by six metres to reach Commonwealth Avenue.
Motorists driving on Commonwealth Avenue have been advised to look out for the new set of traffic lights at London Circuit.
“The completion of this section will also help reduce the pressure for road users on Constitution Avenue and ease congestion on the eastern side of the city,” an Infrastructure Canberra spokesperson said.
“It will simplify access to buses, which will no longer be detoured around Vernon Circle.”
The road is only open to vehicles for now, but new pedestrian footpath links and dedicated cycle lanes are expected to open in the coming weeks.
Landscaping and tree planting along the road will continue into the second half of the year.
Construction continues on the western side of London Circuit to make way for light rail Stage 2A.
Detour signage around all works in the area is in place.
More details on road changes and other impacts relating to the construction of light rail are available on the online construction impacts map.
