Yes, that is a given. However, various levels of EA are in fact to compensate for additional hours of work that are TRAVEL. So whoever it was who thought that the additional allowance would compensate somehow up to a normal middle-range wage instead of this measly pay (oh, and just by the way, Leigh could well be skimping on this poor person’s salary in order to have staffing budget bitsies over that can chock up other staffers’ pay) was wrong.

Funny that’s not what is says here:

40.1 An electorate staff allowance (ESA) is payable to electorate employees in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and official travel undertaken outside of business hours.

Note the clever use of the word “and”.

Makes my construction job on similar money, 8 hour day and a nine day fortnight look very sweet. My union negotiated those benefits for me.

I hope he puts in a better effort when he fights for MY workplace rights in Parliament than he (alledgedly) provides for his own staff.
