Police are seeking witnesses a vehicle suspected of being stolen which involved in a pursuit through Macquarie and Belconnen late last night (Wednesday, January 30).
Around 11.45pm police were conducting a mobile patrol along Lathlain Street, Belconnen when the saw a blue Holden VT Commodore and its occupant acting suspiciously in the car park at the Shell service station.
Police watched the vehicle accelerate away from the service station with its lights turned off and proceed through a red traffic light at the intersection of Lathlain and Nettlefold Street. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however the car failed to stop and continued to accelerate away along Lathlain Street.
Police pursued the car through Macquarie before the pursuit was terminated in Osbourne Place, Belconnen.
The pursuit lasted three minutes and reached a top speed of 110km/h.
A short time later, the officers were driving along Hennessy Street in search of the car when they saw it drive through the greenbelt area near Crick Place and Hennessy Street and collide with a tree. A man ran from the car towards Moulden Court.
The man is described as 6’1” (187cm) in height with a slim build. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
The car was seized and towed to the Exhibit Management Centre and will undergo a forensic review.
