A car chase was filmed from the sky when police followed a stolen car as it was driven from Sydney all the way to Canberra this week.
Police officers were patrolling Surry Hills in Sydney about 10 pm on Tuesday (29 July) when they attempted to stop a white hatchback.
Checks revealed it had allegedly been stolen from Melbourne in Victoria a few days earlier, a NSW Police spokesperson said.
The car allegedly failed to stop and crashed into a marked police vehicle, then a pursuit was initiated when its driver tried to drive away from the scene.
This pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
The driver of the police vehicle in the crash was not injured.
Then, about an hour later, police spotted the car on the M7 motorway and began another pursuit, which ultimately lasted until the driver reached the ACT.
“Officers from multiple commands assisted, including the Hume Police District, Monaro Police District, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and PolAir, before the vehicle travelled across the border and into the ACT,” the police spokesperson said.
ACT Policing arrested the alleged driver, a 43-year-old man, early on Wednesday morning (30 July) in Downer, ACT.
Police will seek to extradite him to NSW.
