ACT Policing has expressed its disappointment following a spate of property damage involving local businesses in the Weston Creek area.
Over the past month police have attended several incidents of property damage, the latest involving the Weston Creek Children’s Centre and McDonald’s Weston.
Around 10.20am on Saturday (February 2) police were called to the Weston Creek Children’s Centre where six windows had been smashed as well as damage to the childproof gate.
On the same day McDonald’s Weston received damage to its front glass and drive-through menu signage.
Officer-in-Charge of Woden Police Station Mark Steel described the recent acts of property damage as concerning.
“It’s hard to fathom the mindset of people that commit these types of property damage, particularly on a Child Care Centre,” Sergeant Steel said.
“It is distressing for the business owners, and in this case parents, to find property damaged by these senseless acts.”
“The growing number of property damage incidents in the Weston Creek area is concerning to police and we’re calling on the community to work with us and report any suspicious activity.”
Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incidents or may have seen anything suspicious in the area to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
