Does anyone know what’s going on with the Albermarle Building in Woden?
The ground floor is all boarded up. It looks abandoned.
Juliana House in Bowes St, Woden is also deserted.

Juliana was vacated at least 12 months ago. Geocon Constructions will convert it to one of the “Abode” style hotels as per the new one in Tuggeranong.

It’s rumoured that the AFP uses Alexander for anti-terrorist training (including abseiling) and, indeed, strange lights can sometimes be seen in Alexander early in the mornings. As far as the future is concerned, the most persistent rumour I’ve heard is that it’s too costly to refurbish A and A and so they will be demolished and the site used for residential purposes.
It’s not a rumour, you see them there during afternoons often training off the side of the building. Other times their distinctive 4x4s are outside and they’re carrying gear inside.
Hey thanks Bronal and Dacquiri. When I joined the Public Service straight out of school in 1991, Julie House was the first place I worked. I didn’t know Penguin House was also vacant, we (Dept of Human Services) moved in there in late July this year.
The Albemarle and Alexander Buildings were vacated in early 2010 when DoHA moved to the Sirius Building. Also Penrhyn House, although it seems to have been partially reoccupied. I didn’t realise Juliana had been vacated as well. Thank you the interview and for taking our concerns directly to the CIT Executive! ~* Lisa View
