ACT Policing arrested and charged a 30-year-old man from Bega, New South Wales following a police pursuit of a stolen motor vehicle yesterday morning (May 20).
About 6am yesterday police were informed that a Mitsubishi Triton utility, which was stolen earlier in the morning during a burglary in O’Malley was sighted around the Scrivener Dam area.
General Duties members from Woden, Belconnen and City attended the area, and located the vehicle travelling along the Tuggeranong Parkway.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the Mitsubishi failed to stop and accelerated away travelling along the Parkway before turning onto William Hovell Drive.
Police have pursued the vehicle along William Hovell Drive, when the driver attempted to turn into Coulter Drive. Due to the speed of the vehicle, which was estimated at 120km/h in a 80km/h zone, the vehicle was unable to complete the turn and spun.
The man attempting to avoid apprehension ran from police into nearby bush land. After a short foot pursuit he was arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House.
The man will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with burglary, theft and take motor vehicle without consent along with a number of traffic offences.
