I did a pile of washing yesterday and was just hanging the last load out on the line when the raindrops began to fall. Needless to say, cursing Murphy heartily, I brought everything back in again – which was a good idea because it did rain steadily for about 10 minutes..
I thought perhaps I’d try washing my car today….

What is it, PB? Now you need to make sure you have all the wet weather gear.
SV 650 sports, my late mid life crisis present to myself. 🙂
So the BOM predicts sunshine for Monday and rain for Tuesday, and we get rain for Monday and fine for Tuesday, par for the course for them.

Wouldn’t the car form a Faraday Cage and direct the lightning into the ground?

Or Top Gear viewers…
We appeared to only get nuisance rain at Fyshwick while I was at work, so I was surprised to see 5mm in our rain gauge when I got home (inner north).

Report on 666 of a lightning strike on a car. Driver taken to hospital suffering from um err shock.
How would that be possible – unless the driver was getting in or out of the car at the time?
I think it was probably the shock of it raining rather than the lightning.
Stupid lightning. I just got back from a reported lightning strike and smoke sighting. Now I am wet, and wasted my time chasing something that will probably burst into flame tomorrow afternoon.
Had a nice little drop of rain and I mean little drop, didn’t have time to grab the camera for a snapshot though.
Yep, but the lighting strike would frighten the bejesus out of you, and that fright May send you into shock.

If the car has one of those earthing straps then it would become a potential strike.
How would that be possible – unless the driver was getting in or out of the car at the time?
driving a mini moke? arm out the window, resting down the door? surfing on the roof? (was it a pizza delivery vehicle?)
When will proper rain come back to Canberra. I;m getting tire of 10 flooding downpours, and thats it. A couple of days every month of steady rain is what we need FFS!
As for the lightning, the thought of a dude getting struck by lightning in his car (not possible as far as I am aware – sounds more like a poor joke), reminds me of the bloke who got struck by lightning 9 times in the “Benjamin Button”. Haha, bloody hilarious!

Yeah but that 5 minute deluge in Tuggers has most likely refilled my tank, and I can water my eriostimens again!

storms are useless in drought. They’re better than nothing, but storms are localised, brief, feirce and the water runs off and runs away.
do no be fooled by teh odd storm into thinking the drought’s over. If anything, it’s worse.
had 2 showers in lyneham, the second heavy enough to make the gutter overflow for a couple of minutes, but now all gone again. keep coming rain!
Had three drops outside my Deakin window, all of which have now dried up without any significant outpouring of heavenly liquid despite increasingly loud clapping of thunder…
Crap – flooding at my place again 🙁 but sweet at the same time – my garden will be happy!
Over here we got three drops then the sun came out again. Major fizzer.
