PostOp is having a lengthy whinge about a lack of quality in Canberras pop-punk scene.
They do have some kind words for Transmission Nowhere, and Bedford Decision.
Unkind or fair cop?

Funny stuff.
“And if you know how to throw a few power-chords together, why not give it a go yourself?”
Sound advice, but a context change is required. I know how to throw a few power-chords together, and do so in a much more maniacal way. It’s called METAL \m/
I run PostOp, and I’d just like to add, I’m not a fan of post punk. I give our contributors a fairly free reign, and that was what one of them came up with. Feel free to contact me if you want to put your own music views in the zine
Cheers

Is it a prerequisite in pop-punk to put on a southern californian accent despite the fact that you’re Australian? WTF?

Doesn’t have a brass section. Prefer The Bosstones, The Frugals, Dance Hall Crashers, Madness, The Selecter, No Doubt, Less than Jake, Reel Big Fish. Most 2-Tone and Third Wave stuff will keep me happy.
Is pop-punk that emo crap??
I’m sorry but I tend to listen to the same stuff I have listened to since I was at school, much to the dismay of my wife.

Kiama, pop 30,000, has a pretty busy pop-punk scene.
I wonder if Canberra’s problem has anything to do with the fans trashing the venues?
I don’t know, Canberra seems to have a budding hip-hop scene despite the paranoia of venues about fans – searching patrons before entry for markers, paint and weapons and the like. On that note, I have unfortunately encountered quite a few pop-punk bands at gigs around town. Maybe the writer is complaining that there aren’t enough pop-punk bands to his taste more than making a serious observation on the scene.

Meh, small town not catering to all special interests. News at 11.
I want the non-catering to continue. Call me bigoted on this one, guys.
If you like tibetan throat singers, then you’d love Maori nose-horn blowers.
I think the story is best summarised by *draws breath* taumatawhakatangihangihauapokaiwhenuakitanatahu. (yes, its a real word)
“Over the past few years, the popularity of the true thinking man’s genre, pop punk, has been exploding all over the world”
What’s wrong with the youth? What did you bastards do? Don’t blame me, I’m not old enough to have produced them…
I agree with Nifty…
I also truly lament Canberra’s complete lack of mandolin based thrash metal jazz trance bands. That and Ukranian folk songs played by Irish harpists and tibetan throat singers.
What a scene we’d have!
All those years I wasted doing my own thing and thinking i was happy when I could have been participating in the worldwide takeover that pop punk is currently enjoying.
I might have been popular!
*sad*
Yeah, I don’t know how many times me and my mates have sat around lamenting the lack of pop-punk bands in Canberra. Don’t even talk to me about funk fusion brass bands, alt-progressive zydeco and death metal mariachi bands! Sheesh!
If that’s “the true thinking man’s genre” then I’ve clearly wasted my entire life thinking about all the wrong things.
