Multiple construction projects in Canberra’s centre are hitting their next milestones with plenty of changes still to come for those travelling through the area.
New walking paths and dedicated cycle lanes on London Circuit between Constitution Avenue and Edinburgh Avenue will open this weekend (30-31 August) along with an extra 120 parking bays in the City Hill car park.
It comes as the Raising London Circuit project has reached practical completion.
Construction will continue on the western side, between Commonwealth Avenue and Edinburgh Avenue, as part of the light rail stage 2A project.
Sections of Northbourne Avenue near the light rail construction site will be closed between Vernon Circle and Rudd Street/Cooyong Street from 8 pm Friday 19 September to 6 am Monday 22 September.
One carriageway of Northbourne Avenue will remain open at all times during the ongoing utility and stormwater works.
The Theatre Lane car park will be closed from mid-October as part of site establishment and early works for the new Lyric Theatre in preparation for construction (subject to approvals).
The car park will be used for hoarding and site sheds.
Theatre Lane car park’s permit and accessible parking will be relocated to nearby car parks.

Excavation, tree and light pole removal, and rail bridge preparation work on Parkes Way will see intermittent temporary lane closures continue throughout September.
This work on the western median will enable crane installation for the bridge works slated for later this year.
The ACT Government has emphasised more than 5000 car parking spaces remain available across the city, with free parking Wednesday to Sunday evenings from 5:30 pm.
These include 280 spaces in the newly opened Nangari Street car park, along with those 120 parking bays in the City Hall car park.
“As Canberra’s city centre undergoes this once-in-a-generation transformation, the ACT Government is working closely with the Australian Government and private developers to minimise disruption and ensure the city remains open for business,” an Infrastructure Canberra statement read.
“A multi-agency Disruption Taskforce is coordinating efforts to manage construction impacts in the city.
“These city-shaping projects will create jobs, attract investment and enrich community life. They are designed to support Canberra’s growth, improve public transport and activate the city centre seven days a week.”
