Two more buildings across Canberra have been targeted in ram raids, about a week after a stolen front loader was driven into the front windows at a shop in Kippax Fair, Holt, on 13 September.
Just before 4 am on Tuesday morning (23 September), a vehicle was used to smash through the front doors of the Ainslie Football Club.
“CCTV showed two people entering the club and attempting to access ATMs and other equipment,” an ACT Policing spokesperson said.
Soon afterwards, the same vehicle was used to smash glass doors at the Myer store in Belconnen, but a metal roller door behind the glass prevented access to the store.
At about 4:40 am, police saw the vehicle outside the Bonner shops before it fled the scene with two people on board.
“Police believe they were attempting to access the supermarket at that location,” the police spokesperson said.
As part of the investigation into Tuesday’s incidents, police are looking into whether they are linked to the earlier ram raid in Kippax.
“Police believe these incidents are targeting Canberra businesses and shopping centres, particularly those handling cash and with ATMs present,” the police spokesperson said.
“ACT Policing is reminding business operators to consider their premises’ security measures to deter and prevent incidents such as these that are targeting access to cash.”
Anyone with information about these incidents or drivers who have dashcam footage of suspicious vehicles in the vicinity of the incident locations early on Tuesday morning can contact Crime Stoppers.
