The driver of a Ford Ranger was allegedly caught speeding at almost 70 km/h over the limit down a major Canberra road.
An ACT Road Policing officer was at the Majura Parkway after 10 pm on Monday night (20 October) when they allegedly recorded the ute going 169 km/h in a signposted 100 km/h zone.
The officer stopped the driver, a 21-year-old man from Karabar.
The man was issued with an immediate suspension notice, suspending his right to drive in the ACT for 90 days.
An ACT Policing spokesperson said he will also receive a summons to attend court in relation to the matter.
“ACT Policing continues their ‘Anywhere, Anytime’ approach to traffic law enforcement and would like to remind Canberrans that speeding remains one of the five main contributors to fatal collisions on our roads,” the spokesperson said.
So far this year, there have been five fatalities on the ACT’s roads.
The most recent was when a 56-year-old man died from a motorcycle accident earlier this month.
