Ainslie death by punch to the face

ACT Policing is investigating the overnight death of a 42-year-old Canberra man, who was admitted to hospital three days ago after an incident near his residence in Ainslie.

On Saturday afternoon (January 12) police were patrolling in Ainslie when they had cause to take the deceased into protective custody as a result of his intoxication. He was released a short time later into the care of a responsible person.

Later that day, the deceased was involved in an altercation with a neighbour in which he was allegedly punched in the face and fell to the ground.

He was conveyed by ambulance to The Canberra Hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning (January 13) and admitted for observation.

The man’s condition deteriorated significantly late yesterday (Tuesday, January 15) and he was pronounced deceased in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, January 16).

AFP crime scene investigators will conduct a forensic examination of the deceased’s residence in Ainslie and police are seeking witnesses.

Just to clarify this, no-one ever dies from a punch to the head per se. People get punched with 4oz gloves square in the head every day in Mixed Martial Arts, and it’s one of the safest sports around. It’s the brain wobble resulting from from hitting one’s dead upon falling that causes death.

You don’t know what you’re on about.

An MMA fighter will be an extremely fit, extremely strong and muscular professional fighter who is braced to receive a blow. There’s a world of diference between someone like that and your average pissed dude getting king-hit in the street.

Amongst other things, a heavy strike to an unprepared intoxicated person can break the cervical spine. A strike to the temple just in front of the ears where the skull is thin can drive skull bone into the brain. A strike right between the eyes can drive fragile sinus bone into the brain. A strike to the front of the throat can crush the larynx, causing death by asphyxiation. Any strike that results in loss of consciousness can subsequently result in death by choking.

And if the blow doesn’t kill you, then yes, you still have to fall to the ground and hit your head on the concrete. And if you don’t die, you still end up with burst eyeballs, teeth all over the ground, lacerations, fractured eye sockets, broken jaws, fractured skulls, brain swelling, brain damage, blood clots etc etc etc.

I’ll say it again. Street fights aren’t like the movies. And they’re not like MMA or World Championship Wrestling either.

The attack happened at Ainslie Village which is a site for drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.The victim was a resident of Ainslie Village, and is understood to have been receiving rehabilitation there.

Probably living their own life because at 42 he should be able to look after himself

Post-mortem examinations revealed the deceased had a bronze body.

Police are currently searching for a man with iron fists. Members of Lion clan sought for questioning.
