Poor middle aged blokes with their bundy cans, must’ve been having alcoholic frolic flashbacks.

Why don’t they just hold it on the Canberra Day weekend and be done with it?
Because everyone’s gone to the beach?

You went to Skyfire. People sitting around a lake on deck chairs…
And not just any people, either, but 104.7 listeners (presumably).
I’m not surprised.

Was a great night and the absolute best ever finale I have seen.
It would have been perfect except for the bunch of drunken yobbos behind us, who spent the entire hour leading up to the show swearing foul language, kicking their empty Bundy cans all over the boardwalk and propositioning every young lady that walked past. These weren’t even drunken youths, rather middle aged men who should have grown up by now. Even over the noise of their ghetto blaster and the explosions overhead all I could hear was expletives, as if it was a competition to see who was loudest.
Yes, I guess we could have packed up our chairs and moved away, or politely asked them to pull their heads in [to which I imagine I would have possibly ended up in hospital], but it simply reflects what society has generally become nowadays. It’s such a shame our kids have to be exposed to this wherever we go.
Still, as I said at the start, best ever Skyfire show. Happy 100 years Canberra. It really doesn’t reflect ‘what society has become’ at all.
You went to Skyfire. People sitting around a lake on deck chairs, drinking alcohol while waiting hrs on end to see a 15 minute Fireworks display. Of course there’s going to be an ample amount of people like this.
You have just confirmed what I am saying. The fact that society accepts this as normal behavior at a public “community” event, where nobody steps in to say “Hey mate, stop being such a drongo”,” Watch your language there’s kids about” or “Buddy, pick up those cans.”, confirms my view that we as a society tolerate a lot more than say 30 years ago. Be it Skyfire, a construction site or indeed a public school, the foul mouths of this generation leave me astounded.
Yes, I am probably a prude by today’s scales, but I am proud of the fact I can hold a civil tongue at all times, especially when youngsters are around. Indeed, I did not want my children hearing the fellow/s proposing sex acts between one female and 3 males. Nor the persistent use of the “F” word, over and over and over and over again. Can public events be given ratings like TV? No. Bugger.
