The News Ltd papers have it in for the Chaser boys. Every week they nit pick something out of the show to put on their websites. I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually rang the guide dogs association and put the words in their mouths.
The Chaser boys claimed that they had to go overseas to make skits because they became too recognisable in Australia. I beg to differ: I think no-one pays them any attention whatsoever.

Honestly – sometimes reading these forums is like taking a sh*t.
Only rarely do these forums leave a bad taste in your mouth though.

A better, but still not great moment from the Chaser:

Lame sketch. Not a fan. They have done much funnier stuff in the past.
All this sketch involved was a bloke and some cameras attending the church of the PM (which is common knowledge anyways) and pretending to climb it. No real attempt to climb was made, obviously: would have been nice if the comedy was sufficient to make up for this.
Why do people keep saying he had “all the gear”? He had a rope and a backpack.
I thought that the sketch went well, not a side splitter, but made the point that Rudd commenting on the climbing of Ularu was probably not appropriate for someone who expects special consideration for his own imaginary friend.
I thought it was a point well made, and reasonably amusing.
That said, I don’t believe in Kev’s imaginary friend, or the ‘sacredness’ of Uluru, so climb them all! Pat Condell is a legend.

…I also thought that given Julian was aware that a soldiers life had been taken and the PM was about to announce it, this skit should never have gone ahead – again poor taste…
Nah, it wasn’t in poor taste at all. Unfortunate timing, maybe.
The point of climbing sacred sites had no connection whatsoever to the soldier’s death and, obviously, the church was crucial to the sketch. The supposed controversy created during filming has become the story, on RA at least. If that didn’t ever get out into the public domain, then barely anyone would have thought twice about the Chaser’s timing.
vg…could you be much more of a miserable human being? I feel sorry for the poor bastards you have to work with and anyone you’re related too.
If we were mates there’s no way I would invite you to my tea parties.
Honestly – sometimes reading these forums is like taking a sh*t.
I think knowing about the clip before seeing it probably flattened it’s impact for me. Note to self: stop reading spoilers…
It’s a good point; not really funny, but gently satirical, and didn’t seem to interrupt Kev and Therese’s sabbath at all, which is good.
I think the point was very well made. Whether Rudd got it or not is another question – he looked for all the world like he couldn’t believe someone would have the temerity and incivility to interrupt his skygod worship. (I guess he didn’t get it after all.)
I usually love a good Chaser sketch, but I thought this one was pathetic. It was pretty obvious he wasn’t going anywhere as he was being watched by police…
I also thought that given Julian was aware that a soldiers life had been taken and the PM was about to announce it, this skit should never have gone ahead – again poor taste.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good laugh and I think the Eulogy Song was pretty funny, but I just think this was inappropriate and showed a lack of respect.
Hey I didn’t like the skit as well, but the rest of the episode was very funny.

I have a tremendous sense of fun, when I see something worthwhile. KRudd gave them a contemptuous look and moved on. Really hilarious. The funniest thing about it was they were told not to do it by their colleagues as KRudd was going to talk about the soldier that just died in Afghanistan and then maybe wasn’t the most appropriate time to pull their stunt but they did, and how weak as piss was it?
You want to see something really funny The Chaser did a few years ago. Find their old blooper tape. The one where John Howard told them to pull their heads in, and they did and slinked away……oh that’s right, they don’t show it.
They reached their creative peak about the time of APEC. I used to like the show, now its just weak. They are given so much material to work with and this is the best they can come up with?
The Chasers are a bunch of galahs whose sense of humour is weak at best. I would have loved to see the Police let this clown “attempt” to climb the Church. The chances of him getting off the ground? ZERO. It would have been priceless to watch him stand around thinking about climbing the steeple. Now that would have been funny…. All the gear – no idea.
If by some fluke he did manage to get to the top. it would have been champagne humour to watch the Police rescue the idiot….. Ha ha.
VG,
That statement would be ironic, when you consider who has ultimate rule of Aunty ABC.
The joke is obviuosly on you and your type “the Ruddians”.
Should the bill for the resources wasted as a result of these wankers efforts be sent to them or the public?
I guess they made a point… but so did the Canberra Times when it was originally reported. Not funny.
So, how did that Google search go there vg? 😛
The skit went a lot more smoothly than I had expected. Given Krudd’s comments on climbing Uluru it was a fair point as well.
As for Krudd’s following presser, sure that could have been better, I guess, but the timing lark works both ways. This sketch wouldn’t work next week, it needed to be run now.
Just as it is great that our comics can get such access to our PM, it is equally great that we have such freedom of press.
If you didn’t like it, I’m sure there was some side splitting Two and a half men or some other similarly mindless shit on TV that won’t offend your tender sensibilities.

krud larf? I bet he yelled at the security guards for letting the Chaser to get that close to him.
If only he had built a guard tower on the southern shores of LBG
Oh vg – where is your sense of fun? Yes, it wasn’t as good as some of the others, but it was still funny. I bet that Therese and KRudd had a little laugh when they got back in their car.
That is without doubt one of the most unimaginative, weak as piss attempts at comedy/satire I’ve ever seen. KRudd completely ignored them and the only person who engaged them was a Constable there on point duty.
If that is ‘cutting edge’ comedy in this country then sorry, our tax $ are being sorely wasted on these ass clowns. Please tell me what point they made when everyone ignored them bar possibly the lowest level of security there?
If you think that was funny I’d Google ‘sense of humour’ for a reality check
