Meh. Once asked them about EPIRBS, they didn’t know what it was. Ended up buying online from a Sydney store.
Did you mean PLBs?

I am reliably informed that Camping World is not now in receivership.
It is true that Tuggeranong and Woden have closed.
But the old Belconnen store has moved and is now called Mitchell Camping World. It has new owners and more stock than ever.
And thus bears no resemblance to anything that may ever have been called Camping World. A bit like Grandfather’s axe perhaps..

I’m not surprised.
Camping World Gungahlin (which is actually in Mitchell) is the old Belconnen store has shocking service. Every time I have popped in for a look I have never been offered assistance, have always had to ask even when there were three guys twiddling thumbs behind the counter.
The Philip Camping store is just as bad. I went in a month or so ago to look at Hobies. After walking in the store and seeing how empty it was it was clear it was struggling. Lady working there was serving, a guy was walking around doing nothing. I was in there for an easy 25 minute looking around, on the way out the guy yells out ‘see ya later mate’. Great service! So you were just browsing & it bothers you that nobody approached you with a fake, “what are you looking for today.” or some other …
I wish all my shopping trips involved me walking into a store, without being asked for assistance or having an awkward conversation about “what I’m up to today?”
Where did I say it bothers me?
I clearly said ‘I’m not surprised.’Where did I say I was just browsing?
I clearly said: ‘have always had to ask for assistance’I don’t shop to browse, that’s what the internet is for.
I shop to buy. Go in, look for what I’m after, purchase and leave.I don’t like being asked ‘what I’m up to today?’, but I do like plain old customer service.
If I didn’t want any interaction with sales staff I would but online.
hear hear. Customer service just isnt the same, anywhere.

Canberra has a ridiculous number of camping/outdoor outlets when compared to 5-10 years ago. Between BCF, Anaconda, Rays Outdoors, Kathmandu, Paddy Pallin, Snowgum, Mont, Big W, Kmart, Mountain Designs, MACPAC, Camping World, Wetspot and Canberra Camping & Kayaks, it must be an *extremely* competitive market.
SWOP Pty Ltd trading as Canberra Camping and Kayaks are also under voluntary administration.
That pretty well nails all three camping worlds then?

The one in Woden will go the same way if they keep charging over the top prices for basic things like the butane cans I needed the other day. they wanted something like $3.50 a can when you can get a pack of 3 for around five or six bucks in other places

Yah, customer service was a bit sketchy and they didnt really ever have anything you needed in Tuggeranong. It seemed like they were trying to be Mont, Mac Pac or Paddy Pallin. It used to be the best store until it moved, I would frequently go there instead of BCF.
Its a pity, I need some stuff for my Coleman tent & they are the stockists.
My favourite camping sales person is the little old lady who used to be at Jurkowitz (sp?), she is awesome and knows her stuff. She is now at BCF Tuggeranong and is a delightful help.

I’m saddened, but not at all surprised, by this news. The Tuggeranong store, while well appointed, was very poorly patronised. I *rarely* saw customers in there.
