A post from me that’s not a rant.
Dash cam of a trip from a few weeks back, Canberra to Wagga via Gundagai. Sped up to 1 frame every 1.5 seconds. Clouds are trippy particularly after Yass. Enjoy!

having done that drive, but in reverse a few weeks ago, and at the end of a trip from adelaide, the video reminds me of three things:
a) the abomination that is the Barton Highway – which as a major highway and should be dual carriageway all the way from the ACT to the Hume
b) how good the hume is now, and how it could easily support a higher speed (say 130) as the drive itself is utterly boring
c) how a bypass of Wagga would be a good thing!
overall video is so cool.
all that I do at the moment is use gps software on my phone to track my journeys – it shows max and min elevation, avg speed, distance and max speed. can also be exported to Google Earth.
Following on from Rosebud, me too! I thought ‘what a load of sad tosh, i’ll watch 5 seconds and post some derogatory dismissive rubbish’ to give my Sunday arvo ego a boost. And then watched it – all the way through and loved it!! Thanks Sarge 🙂
At the risk of sounding an arse; I’d have loved a Google Maps thing showing where you were all the time….
But nice one anyway!

What, like “You stupid !&^%%^. Why dont you look!!! Idiot!!!”? lol
Great video Sarge. May I offer a small tip? To reduce the dashboard reflection on the glass, I find a sheet of black material works well. I have been taking footage of Australian highways through the windscreen for a number of years for my web site, and have found this to be the most effective way to reduce reflections.
I think I am in love with you Sgt! Having done that drive at least 100 times in my life (probably more) I was so amazed to see you sticking to the left hand lane, leaving plenty of space between cars and overtaking properly I think we have to call it ‘Car Travel Porn’. CTP for short! Fantastic.

Good,…But Where Did You Buy It And How Much??
Google my friend 🙂
Teds for $399.
Can be had for under $300 from the US.
You can get cheap HD car dashcams on eBay for around $40. Not a brand name, but the video quality they deliver is just as good.
Too Late!!-DOH!!
Ok I’ll admit to a gasp, “oh s***”, and physically pulling several feet back from computer when you came around that corner into Murrumbateman!!!

Camera is a ContourGPS which I use to record pretty much all trips around town. Normally at low quality I’ll fill up a 16GB micro SD card in a week, I used higher quality for this trip though which lasts about 3.5 hours.
Software was primarily Windows Live Movie Maker. Speeding up the original video automatically removed the sound for most of the video. I used Adobe elements to mix the songs and remove road noise in the bit where the bloke pulled out from the median strip at Yass.

Anyone been done either way on the Hume Hwy elapsed time radar yet?
The point to point speed checks are only for heavy vehicles (at the moment).
Very Impressed-Where Did You Get The Camera Etc,How Much And Brand…I WANT ONE.
Nice work, Sgt Bungers. Almost makes me want to drive to Wagga! Last drove down to Gundagai in 2006 – it’s a pleasant trip.
By the way, what dash cam setup do you use, and what do you think of it?
That was great SgtBungers – I have no idea why I enjoyed that as much as I did 🙂
Not bad, Sarge, as long as you mute the audio pollution. What software did you use to do that?

That was cool. I watched the whole thing and had a great time, maybe it’s because it’s Friday and I’m at work. I particularly enjoyed the part where the nong pulled out in front of you – I watched that bit twice.
I wish we could go that fast in real life.
Try Drugs!
This rocks – creativity enhanced with technology. Saw the “elapsed time radar gantry” just past Macca’s at Yass.
Anyone been done either way on the Hume Hwy elapsed time radar yet?

Youtube broke
I was a bit naughty with the music, but according to youtube that only blocks the video in Germany.
I haven’t monetised the clip and have included links to buy the songs on itunes, so hopefully SME will not take it down. Will report back if that happens!
A few cars parked on the side of the road in Murrumbateman. Was it the weekend of the Murrumbateman Field Days?
Now there’s something you don’t see every day: 3s gap between your car and the car in front!
Bravo, Sgt.Bungers!
Worked fine for me too.
Pretty fun, if not slightly dizzying, little clip.

And at 5:50, another one that hopefully only looks dangerous because of the speed of the clip.
