ACT Policing is investigating the death of a 30-year-old Lyneham man while he was in custody at the Alexander Maconochie Centre in Hume.

Around 7.30pm yesterday (July 16) police were called to the centre after a report that a detainee was found deceased by ACT Corrective Services officers within the centre.

The incident is being investigated as a death in custody by ACT Policing Criminal Investigations.

Police believe that the death is non-suspicious and the next-of-kin of the deceased has been notified of the death.

Police will not be releasing the name or any further details of the deceased at this time.

A coronial brief will be prepared for the ACT Coroner.
