ACT Policing has arrested a 23-year-old Evatt man following a Northside pursuit last night (Monday, April 23).
About 10.35pm a City patrol was travelling along Ellenborough Street, Lyneham when they saw a green Ford Falcon travelling in excess of the posted 60km/h speed limit.
Police attempted to perform a traffic stop but the car accelerated away, driving through the suburbs of Kaleen, Giralang, Evatt and Melba.
The driver tried to escape police by mounting the curb and attempting to drive across the Melba ovals where the car collided with a drain, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.
The pursuit ran for approximately six minutes and reached speeds in excess of 120km/h.
The driver and front passenger exited the vehicle and fled the scene. Police apprehended the two back passengers transporting them to City Police Station where they were interviewed.
Shortly after the driver of the vehicle turned himself in to police. He was charged with several traffic offences and will face the ACT Magistrates Court later today.
