Two brothers, aged 15 and 8, embark on a sometimes-surreal quest for their missing father in the city of N’Djamena, which may be a metaphor for the story of the nation of Chad.

Mahamat-Saleh Haroun’s second feature confronts big themes of love, grief, death and madness through a simple story, beautifully told.

“Rich in understated humanity, Abouna is a film about love and loss, imbued with the most profound tenderness towards children and childhood.” – The Guardian
