A corflute sign for the 2025 federal election was defaced with a hate symbol in northern Canberra last week. Police are seeking witnesses to the incident.

The election sign on Horse Park Drive in Amaroo was defaced between 5 pm on 16 April and 9 am on 17 April, an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

Corflute signs made of polypropylene are publicly displayed by candidates during election periods.

Police would not reveal what symbol was used in the incident.

“The matter was reported to police and anyone who witnessed suspicious activity along Horse Park Drive at Amaroo between those times is asked to come forward,” the police spokesperson said.

“ACT Policing reminds the community that interfering or defacing election advertising material is an offence.”
