Because Canberra needs even more festivals!

FESTIVAL OF SHOWS – Impro ACT Showcase!

Impro ACT presents a short festival of improvised theatre from 5-7 April 2013 in the Galaxy Nightclub at Casino Canberra.

Over three great nights Impro ACT will showcase the freshest and most fantastic Canberra-devised one-act and completely improvised shows.

Each one-act show features the cream of the ACT’s improvisers and the season provides a unique mix of both comedy and drama.

IMPRO ACT SHOWCASE FULL PROGRAM

Friday 5 April

7pm – Chance Encounters, directed and created by Kathy Bakewell
An improvised romantic comedy about the love and potential disaster that would happen if two audience members met and started dating.

8pm – Best Laid Plans, directed and created by Matt Sheppard
A dramatic, black comedy thriller in the style of films like ‘Fargo’ and ‘A Simple Plan’.

9pm – Talking Sh!t, created by Jeremy Strasser and Ben Crowley
An improvised comedy show providing a hilarious and sometimes absurd look at the everyday issue that we can all relate to.

Saturday 6 April

3pm – Holding, directed by Heidi Silberman
Set in Australia during World War I, this dramatic piece shares the experiences of the strong women who held a country together.

4pm – Sink or Swim, created by Nick Byrne
Pairs of improvisers pitch to stay afloat in this improvised comedy show where the audience decides who sinks and who swims!

5pm – Paranoia, directed and created by Reid Workman
A murder thriller where the audience knows the identity of the murderer before the cast do. Inspired by movies like “The Thing”, “Scream” and “Murder on the orient express”

Sunday 7 April

6pm – Inspired by Chekhov, directed and created by Luisa Pauletto
An improvised tragi-comedy in the style of Russian playwright, Anton Chekhov.

7pm – Anon, directed, created and performed by Anonymous
Faceless, nameless, lyrca covered performers explore who we really are when pre-conceived judgments and assumptions are removed.

8pm – Sorry I love you, created/directed by Anne Murn, Ruth Pieloor + Showcase Maestro
A double feature to finish the festival. Sorry I love you explores the relationship between one woman and a puppet, while the Showcase Maestro pits Canberra’s freshest and greatest improvisers in competitive challenges to crown the festival maestro!

Faceless, nameless, lycra-covered performers? Is one of them wearing my cashmere?

The idea of improvising in the style of Chekhov is quite difficult to imagine. Sounds extremely challenging.

I did a workshop with these guys earlier in the year – lots of fun and very talented facilitators 🙂
