How can I get ADSL in Chifley?

Like Lazy I said, you’re a long way from the exchange a_jacob. Your exchange is indeed DKIN (not Mawson) – check http://www.adsl2exchanges.com.au/ .. Some people in Chifley may be able to get ADSL but it’s not suprising that others – like yourself – can’t.

As f4te and others have suggested, iiNet / TransACT VDSL2 is available at most residences in Chifley and is typically fast (anywhere from 30/3 to 80/20Mbit) and reliable. Again, see http://www.iinet.net.au/internet/broadband/vdsl2/

gazket – plenty of people on ADSL2+ get 24Mbit (or even a bit faster) on copper as long as several hundred metres. I suggest that if you really have an 11Mbit sync speed then either you have a line fault, the line takes a very long way around to get next door, or you don’t actually live next to the exchange.

4G from all 3 providers is capable well over 100 Megabits/sec, and I have personally seen 130Mbit on Optus 4G (using CA on band 40.) Yes, most people will see a lot slower than that most of the time. Yes, it’s too pricey for decent amounts of data transfer.

ADSL2+ is max theoretical of around 20Mbps. With distance from the exchange and age of the infrastructure I think you are doing well at 2+Mbps reliable in Chifley. With VDSL2, I have friends getting 40+ Mbps in Chifley, and it’s far more reliable.. this depends on your proximity to the Transact nodes.

4G max is about 24Mbps, you will probably see 10 to 20, but this can vary dramatically and you will pay for it.

I have had ADSL 2+ and now have VDSL2. VDSL2 is much faster and more reliable.

I can get up over 4 Mb/s with VDSL2. It was less than half that with ADSL 2+ with drop offs.

3G/4G is nowhere near either and horrendously expensive.

My VDSL2 plan with Grapevine is the cheapest deal I can get. ADSL 2+ did however get me free calls throughout Australia.

I get 6Mbps on ADSL2 and over 10Mbps on 4G. As several people have mentioned 4G is too expensive for recreational streaming but will get your assignments submitted.

ADSL is marketed as 20mb but you will never get any where near 20mb. I live next door to a phone exchange and get 11mb.

unless you want to do anything beyond browsing, then you’ll see some lovely excess usage charges very quickly. My 4G is quicker than my ADSL (and I live 100m from the exchange), no chance I’d consider touching it for daily use with how much data HD streaming uses.
