Images of Canberra - Well someone had to do it.

The best graffiti I remember was in a bus shelter somewhere in Belco. Someone had written “Motley Crüe are the best thing since women”. Underneath it (in a different hand), there was: “Motley Crue ARE women”.

That blades menswear alleyway also had “Daddys cummin home” for ages as well… I remember it well from walking past as a kid and not quite understanding it.

Yes, that’s it! I can’t count the times I walked past and read that wall. I kind of miss it too.

The original quote was “Do you know we are being led to slaughters by placid admirals & that fat slow generals are getting obscene on young blood”

From dim memory the quote as rendered was something like:

“We are ruled by placid admirals and fat slow generals growing obscene on young blood”, but it was a long time ago.

Who remembers when “Constantine is 666” was daubed on the wall around the Lodge?

I also always got a chuckle out of “Dyslexia Lures KO?”

The British Airways billboard advertising the (then) new Concorde service between UK and US which read “Breakfast in London, Lunch in New York” to which someone had added “Baggage in Bermuda”

Me thinks that the subtlety of graffitti has gone as tagging is not the same thing

I remember the laneway near Bladed Menswear in Civic had some political graffiti which was there for a long long time until it was eventually painted over not that long ago. Something along the lines of “Prout’s ____ is society’s panace”. Perhaps someone can fill in the blanks? I’m too young to remember who Prout was. Nor could I tell you the definition of “panace” for that matter.

There’s a road sign in Crawford St, Qbn, that always amuses me. It’s a roadwork sign with the stick-man digging, and someeon’s written below it “free dirt”. If I ever carry my camera there I’ll get a pic, for the regular Images of Queanbo feature.
