Here’s some rather amusing footage of a group of Japanese navigating the streets of Canberra immediately after the super-cell thunderstorm.
Translation anyone?

Fine, but what’s it called when you convert spoken words of one language to written words of another? (Aside from ‘subtitling’)?
Translating is when you convert the written words of one language to another. It is called interpreting when you change the spoken words of one language to another.
End of english lesson
You don’t need a translation for those sounds at the end….
And the song on the stereo is “Turning Japanese”.
According to my most excellent automated Japanese translator (ie, my brother), some of the comments are “is this ground zero?”, “how about that!”, “it doesn’t look like snow though..”, “this is like a bomb site”.
In addition, he says “I can also gather that the driver is the senior student of the cameraman and he asks the girl for something. I assume it’s appropriate screaming, but she doesn’t, so he does it himself.”
Don’t say I never do nothing for yous guys.
well I can tell you that “sugoi” means “fantastic”, and I think “kore wa do deska” means “what’s that?”.
But beyond that it’s been much too long since I’ve learnt Japanese to translate anything else.
How very Japanese to feel safe following a police car.
10 points to anyone who can identify what the music is on the stereo.
