Are there any in Canberra?
Seems like there should be, but I can’t find any! Lake Tuggeranong could surely have one and Lake Burley Griffin.

Short answer. Yes. Try Ha Ha Bar.
Or don’t. Lazy staff and very average food.

Regatta Point cafe is closed for renovations until some timein July. Tuggers used to have The Aft until it closed down, and now only has The Jetty, (never tried so can’t comment). Other than that you are right, there are none to speak of and we need more. Not that a flask of tea would not sometimes hit the spot and be cheaper!
The cafe/restaurant upstairs in the Tuggers Arts Centre… what’s that called? It seems to be OK but not easy to get there from the lake’s edge, but it does have a lake view.

axis, or whatever the national museum cafe is called – as holden points out – is excellent.
Axis (the restaurant part which was run by Hyatt Catering) closed and a new provider moved in. What had been the Axis restaurant reopened as a post-work bar, which was clearly a dumb idea. It is now closed again for remodelling. NO idea what market segment they will address when it reopens. All that is there now is the cafeteria which is kinda OK, it has a liquor licence, but the food is pretty basic and it is essentially inward-facing without the lovely aspect that Axis had. I look forward to a decent restaurant opening there again.

Strange indeed. Seems like a real waste of am opportunity. And if you think Canberra Winters are cold, try living in Scotland – you big bunch of Jessies!
People like walking by lakes, whether the weather be hot or cold. I reckon you could have outdoor tables for 8 months a year and enough footfall to survive the Winter with soup and coffee. Needs some sensible planning and a few retail developments in suitable places.
The place by the flags for a start. Should be 3 times the size at least with wind protection and outdoor heating. The people will come (maybe).
axis, or whatever the national museum cafe is called – as holden points out – is excellent. on a sunny day, outside, the view is lovely and how about that serenity?
There used to be a cafe at the bike hire, I would assume it is still there, I can’t say if it is any good or not.

Are there any options by Lake Ginninderra?
Not sure if Lighthouse counts , it is actually a pub not a cafe…
Haha, you must be new here… We don’t like to build thing near the lake(s), that might make them a place people might want to go.
LBG has a few, although, I do agree they could be improved on.
National Museum of Australia must count as lakeside, surely? Regatta Point, definitely. Then there’s a couple of smaller outlets that could generously be called cafes I guess: a caravan near the Carillon, the other is the Commonwealth Place kiosk. I think both have seating, but only suitable in good weather.
Supposedly Kingston Foreshore will solve your problems, albeit probably not in the location you were hoping.
