Hi all,
Anyone have any idea when the NBN will be available in Gunners? I live in Amaroo and have noted on the NBN site that ‘work has commenced’ in my location (Amaroo, Ngunnawal and Gungahlin)
I rang Exetel but they had no clue.

Thanks to you and the rest of the GCC for the updates Al.
Suspect once they’ve got the “easy” part done – running a line through the existing ducts along the street – then the hard part will commence – running lines from each house to that main line.
Am happy that work has commenced but still trying to be realistic this won’t have a real effect till late in the year at best.
NBN Co has released yesterday their map for the rollout in Gungahlin: http://www.nbnco.com.au/rollout/rollout-map.html
You’ll see marked as already under way is all of Amaroo and Ngunnawal, as previously promised, but also all of the Gungahlin town centre and across to Yerrabi Pond! Bonus for all the lucky folk there.
But for the rest of us, we’re marked as “Work to commence within one year.” This is also as promised by NBN Co at the recent GCC meeting. And NBN Co said that completion would generally be within a year of starting work.
So it is all getting close now. Of course this area does not include those suburbs already covered by Transact cable.
Most of the work already under way is the ‘pole and roping’ I think the Telstra guys at the GCC meeting last week called it – checking all the trenches for access. There’s plenty of that under way right now across Gungahlin.
Of interest in the maps is the little bit shown as “Service available” – meaning already complete. That’s the new estate being built by Bob Winnell in North Watson.
Luv_this_city and MightyJoe if you want to keep up to date, I recommend you follow the GCC Facebook page http://facebook.com/gungahlin
GCC’s Peter Elford is in regular discussions with NBN Co, often well in advance of things being public knowledge, so that’s the place to hear things as soon as publicly known. And go to GCC meetings. Second Wednesday every month except January. All of this stuff has been discussed by NBN Co at several GCC meetings over the last year.

NBN will at least have Telstra trench access…
This is the key. Pulling new cables through the existing ducts is not difficult.
It is going to take forever to backfill existing Gungahlin homes as they all have underground services, partly the reason why we were bypassed by Transact. NBN will at least have Telstra trench access and I assume that the newer suburbs of Crace, Forde, Bonner, etc were pre-laid with fibre or have conduit to suit rapid deployment to end premise. It may be quicker to wait for 6G internet or build your own transmitting tower or a satellite maybe.
Go to whirlpool.net.au they’ll be able to tell you before the Government know themselves.
ring the isp you plan to move with and see if they have a better idea. i recommend internode
