Dog of the Week: Koko

Koko is an extra-large bullmastiff cross Irish wolfhound. She’s a lovely girl and dog owners who are fans of large dogs will fall for her easy-going nature as soon as they meet her.

Even though she’s sizeable (we don’t have an exact weight but easily 40 kg+) she’s quite athletic and loves hitting the deck, rolling around and chasing toys.

It’s because of her size we’re thinking a home with no children would be ideal. Not because she’s not friendly, it’s just when she drops down, which she does quickly and with very little warning, she could certainly harm an unsuspecting toddler.

We can’t tell you her precise age but she’s enjoyed some discipline in life as she’ll obediently sit when commanded, especially for treats.

A calm home with owners who can take her for a leisurely stroll each day and perhaps toss a tennis ball around would be perfect. When you adopt Koko or any dog from our shelter, we’ll give you all the information we have and help them transition from our shelter into your home.

Rabbits of the Week: Teddy and Billy

Our rabbits of the week should really be called our “couple of the week”. Our small animals’ team lead refers to them as “the old married couple” and when you meet them, it’s a fairly accurate description.

Immediately you’ll realise how friendly they are. Both will gently hop towards you to greet you. They move slowly and steadily because of their lovely demeanour and their somewhat old age of six years.

They’re bonded, having lived a happy life together and we’re certainly wanting that to continue. What they need is a peaceful, quiet home where they can love each other and you, accept pats and snuggles and live out their lives as a happy couple.

You might find Teddy (female) and Billy (male) in our air-conditioned shipping containers when you visit, as they struggle in the extreme weather conditions.

Pawnotes: It’s still kitten season. We have lots and lots of kittens.

Visit RSPCA ACT today at 12 Kirkpatrick Street, Weston and add a new companion to your life. You won’t regret it!
