ACT Policing is calling for witnesses to a violent incident on a Canberra bus in which a driver was showered with shattered glass.

The incident happened on Saturday, 17 May, at about 11:30 am, when a man boarded a bus at Calwell Shops in Tuggeranong.

Police say the passenger refused to pay his fare and became verbally aggressive towards the driver. He then head-butted the glass safety partition, breaking it and causing pieces to fall over the driver, before fleeing the scene.

The man is described as Caucasian, about 170 centimetres (5’7″) tall, with dark facial hair. At the time, he was wearing a black hat, black hoodie, black pants, dark shoes and was carrying a black bag.

Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or can identify the man to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting reference 8051298. Information can be provided anonymously.
