RAPID results

I would imagine that the car and the trailer are considered to be a single entity for the purposes of third party insurance. The mind boggles at the alternative scenario.

What’s the story with an unregistered trailer on a registered car – is it insured or not? The trailer rego seems to be just a registration charge.

I never said that mate. You clearly stated that you do care about safety in previous posts, I never doubted that. I was merely saying that the punishment isn’t hard enough when considering alternate outcomes from the situation.

Fair enough, I guess I should have seen that as a comment to the world, and not aimed so much at me.

Although I very much feel that this is an aspect of road safety where the punishment is probably about right, and what needs to be increased is the rate at which it is enforced.

Isn’t this exactly why he was given a fine and the loss of three points (one quarter of the total points you have? This is the equivalent of speeding 15km/h over the limit, and more serious then running a stop sign. It is also a pretty big chunk of an apprentices fortnightly income.

I posted in this thread with the belief that I was giving and example that the police were interested in enforcing this danger on the road, and the punishment when you are caught is significant enough that people should rethink their actions. The response to this is an accusation that I don’t care about safety?

Additionally, Police don’t set the fines or demerit points ……. they are set by government !!!!! In saying that, I think the penalties are about right. To most people, they do hit pretty hard.

Ummm, are you for real? I actually thought that three points and $270 was a pretty solid punishment. I sure made me think about the odd occasion where I have broken that law.

I’m not saying it is too step. You only have to pay if you break the rules and all that, but really? Crushed into a cube? Are you also the sort who think people who speed one km/h over the limit are responsible all the evil in the world?

Solid punishment? Really? Did you consider the number of people’s lives that your friend put in danger when committing the offense? What would have happened it they lost control of the car and killed someone? “Sorry officer I know I just killed someone but I really need to finish this call”

Talking on the phone while driving is fine. Just make sure you’re using a proper hands free kit (not one of those stupid earphone things).
