A one day cricket match costs $500k
And costs about $50 to get in….
For which up to 13,550 people get to watch 22 first class players playing for eight hours, plus around 283,500 people get a positive image of Canberra from the TV coverage.
The skywhale gets six in a basket, and 200 spectators, and we get laughed at by the rest of the country.
Manuka oval doesn’t go away after one match either.
Idiotic comparison.

I keep expecting it to say ‘Dude’ and lift those boobs in a high five, like the turtle in Finding Nemo.
It may be ‘Art’, but it’s still butt-ugly, and it still cost us over $300K. I’m still not impressed.
If you think of the Skywhale in the same way as a big event, $300k is actually not a lot of money. A one day cricket match costs $500k, fireworks displays cost a fortune, bringing an AFL team to Canberra is going to cost 60 times that amount. The Skywhale may not appeal to you, and that’s fine. Lots of stuff our local Government pays for has no appeal to me, but I’m still ok with us as a community supporting these things.
Funnily enough, it appears Skywhale is becoming a victim of ‘her’ success. There’s now, apparently according to the CT, huge demand for Skywhale across the globe.
