ACT Policing arrested four men after a knife incident in Fyshwick early this morning (Sunday, April 14).
Around 3am, General Duties police had been attending a dispute at the Gentlemen’s Club in Gladstone St, Fyshwick when they received an urgent report of an altercation a short distance away in the same street.
They reached the second location almost immediately to find four men running from the scene and a fifth man with a single puncture wound to his torso.
Police officers pursued the fleeing group on foot and apprehended them near 104 Gladstone Street. Other police units attended in support, and a section of Gladstone Street was cordoned off while the area was searched. The injured man, a 50-year-old from Chapman, was conveyed to hospital in a stable condition.
Two knives found discarded in nearby garden beds will be forensically examined.
All four men taken into custody were subjected to a forensic procedure. One of the men, a 23-year-old from Holt, had been sought on a First Instance Warrant over an unrelated matter and will be held in custody to face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow. The other three men – two aged 26, and a third aged 52 – will be released without charge.
However, charges are possible pending the outcome of forensic results.
Police are urging any witnesses who may be able to assist with the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website at act.crimestoppers.com.au.
