Regular readers will no doubt be thrilled to know that the ACT Labor party, after a lengthy gestation, has birthed a new website.
It’s got all the modish gewgaws once could ask for in 2011, time will tell how well they keep it updated.

The Liberals and Nationals – the best team for right now.
I think you will find the nationals don’t run candidates in the ACT, but nice try.

All that time off-line and they couldn’t come up with a design that autosenses and adapts to smartphone viewing??
Do people really access political sites from their smart phones?
Do people still access the internet from ordinary computers?
*stands up, looks around office* ‘yes’

It has been generated with this stuff. http://www.joomla.org/ Is it just me or is there a similarity with their site. Perhaps some sort of template??? At least they are using open source I guess.

@ Mysteryman – why all the hate for the site? I have seen a lot worse…is it just that you have blinkered dislike for anything to do with the ALP, or is it something specific about the site?
I’ve seen worse too. But not from organisations in the public arena.
The site looks terrible. The choice of colours is pretty nasty (the colours are washed out and weak). The overuse of gradients is pretty bad, too, adds to the amateur feel of the site. The navigation buttons at the top look like an after thought, and the social media buttons (especially the double $ donate button) look even worse (pixelated and poorly positioned at the top left!). The “ACT Labor” button is unbalancing-ly huge and the rollover looks like a bad CMYK gradient/blend.
I could go on. Their old website looked a LOT better and far more professional.
Better or worse than this: http://canberraliberals.org.au/html/s01_home/home.asp
That’s tough… The Liberal colour choices are bolder and work slightly better, IMO. But the giant icons below the photos look ridiculous, as does the overall layout of the page. The menu at the top looks cleaner and easy to navigate, but when you click the links the pages they go to aren’t complete/don’t work.
Based on functionality alone, the Liberal one is worse. Now I HAVE seen worse from organisations in the public arena.

While it certainly is not a great site, it seems to do it’s job well enough, and there certainly are sites out there that look worse, and function worse!
I think people have a need to bash up every aspect of something related to a politcal party they dont like, even when it really has no bearing on the issue of the parties political agenda!

They can’t have used much of it! Look at that site! I wouldn’t pay more than a few hundred for something that looked like that.

Well… It’s…
ah…
Awful.
At least I know my tax dollars & increased parking/rego/insurance fees aren’t going to their website! Yuck.
Looks like the designer just discovered the gradient tool in photoshop. I haven’t seen that much fade since acid-wash jeans were popular. Still, they were apparently proud (or foolish) enough to stamp their name at the bottom!
