I missed last years Supercruise, and went yesterday with my mid 60’s parents, a couple of their equally ancient friends and family and a young cousin. The crowd around me was 95% ‘Canberra family’, with 5% bogan feral. We were at Haig Park, so that is probably better than the normal demographical breakdown anyway.

I thought it was a pretty impressive crowd, well controlled and well run. All in all, not a bad show, but it was all over in a flash – by 20 past 12 it was time to head home.

I have memories of the olden days of lining Northborne and crowding the road down to one lane. I was also caught in the riots and ended up driving the wrong way down Northborne to avoid the rubbish, but that is another story for another day…

Back to yesterday – there were some seriously nice pieces of kit with plenty of Aussie Muscle – I would say 30% Ford, 50% Holden and the rest America, Street rods (the immaculate Candy Apple job was outstanding) and the like. Disappointed there was only on Charger but it was something special! Whoever is whinging about ‘ricers’ – there was what, one Lancer Evo, no Subaru’s, a sensational Datsun P510, a rotary 3 Series BMW in ‘little cars’, and 190 big shiny V8’s. A good mix by the Promotors.

The most antisocial parts of the day were posers on Harleys before the event. Yawn.

Those whinging about Summernats have obviously never been, but its easy to stereotype when you have no idea what you are talking about.

Nope, was a entrant twice. Full of bogan trash.

– safest
– lowest noise and particulate emissions

I heard they guy from Summernats talking on 666. He said that the cars in the parade were deliberately chosen to represent the different types of cars that participate. I looked in vain for the following categories:

It was a well organised,disciplined and controlled cruise.No violence or anti-social behaviour that i’m aware of and from what i could gauge a much bigger crowd than last year. No major inconvenience for the travelling public so all in all incident free and therefore a success.

Fair enough.

Sad but true. It would be a better event if all vehicles had to be based on those manufactured before 1988.

I haven’t been to Summernats since the 90s, looks like there are far too many Holdens nowadays.

I found my interest waned, once the classics started to disappear, and more modern factory built cars were entering the events. The same classics eventually turned up year after year, so you didn’t see anything new.

I love that one car on the nature strip under the Yowani sign.
