Motorists from the Jerrabomberra or Queanbeyan areas who use Lanyon Drive to reach Canberra might want to take a different route this weekend.
Part of the road at the intersection with the Monaro Highway will be closed from 7 pm this Friday (27 February) until 5 am on Monday (2 March) to allow for construction as part of the highway’s upgrade.
The northbound and southbound carriageways of the Monaro Highway will be shut.
“This weekend closure is required to install barriers on the new flyover structure over Lanyon Drive, and remove temporary scaffolding and walkways over Lanyon Drive,” a statement from Infrastructure Canberra outlined.

Detours will take motorists through the Hume industrial area along Sheppard Street.
An alternative route for road users travelling from Jerrabomberra to north Canberra is to turn right onto Lanyon Drive at Tompsitt Drive and then use Canberra Avenue.
The works are part of phase two of improvements to the Monaro Highway.
Along with the new southbound flyover, work is underway to upgrade the road surface from David Warren Road, near the Alexander Maconochie Centre, through to Sheppard Street in Hume.
A new widened bridge is being built on the northbound road over Dog Trap Creek/Woden Creek just north of Lanyon Drive, which includes an improved northbound merge from Lanyon Drive onto the Monaro Highway.
The new bridge structure will have Indigenous artwork applied to some of the external elements.
