We found one yesterday morning at our place in Murrumbateman – it was bloody huge and we couldn’t work out what it was, the body looked very ‘spider like’ – now I know, thanks 🙂
You beat me to it 🙂
I knew we should have taken a photo – do’nt know what happened to it, guessing one of the dogs might have had something to do with it’s disappearance!

Suggest you put some sort-of scale in this kind of picture in the future (a body part for e.g.)
+1 You can say monster moth all you like, but a comparison to something would be good.

For those wondering- it’s wingspan was about 13cm, possibly a bit more.

I didn’t even realise this one was up before someone had beaten me to the right answer. 🙁
Bring us more bugs!
We call them ‘Emperor Moths’ but Atlas of Living Australia seems to call it an ‘Emperor Gum Moth’ http://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:biodiversity.org.au:afd.taxon:34a88bce-6898-48a9-9d2a-f72c90de2e78
