ACT Policing has arrested a 25-year-old Flynn man after an incident in which he fled from police in his car earlier this morning (January 17).
Around 2.30am police were conducting a mobile patrol of Emu Bank, Belconnen when they saw the occupants of a green Holden Commodore acting suspiciously.
The officers activated their car’s emergency lights in an attempt to stop the Holden Commodore, but it accelerated away.
The pursuit travelled along a number of streets in Belconnen and Evatt before ‘stop sticks’ were successfully deployed at the intersection of Copland Drive and Keenan Street, Evatt.
The vehicle collided with a roadside barrier along Copland Drive and came to a stop. The man and three passengers fled the vehicle and were all apprehended after a short foot pursuit.
The 25-year-old man, who was the driver of the Holden Commodore, was conveyed to the ACT Watch House where he has been charged with four traffic-related offences. He received Watch House bail, and will face the ACT Magistrates Court on February 5.
The pursuit lasted for seven minutes and the top speed reached by the offending vehicle was 130km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Any witnesses to the pursuit are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or online at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
