ACT Policing has arrested a 41-year-old man from Kaleen, after he was caught drink driving twice in four hours on Saturday night (23 April).
About 7.45pm on Saturday night a City Station patrol observed a blue Toyota Camry attempting to reverse park in Binara Street. Police conducted a roadside breath test which returned a positive result.
The driver was taken to City Station where he recorded a reading of 0.186. He was issued with an immediate suspension notice and advised the matter would be dealt with by way of summons and released.
Around 10.15pm on the same night the offender was observed by police driving along Akuna Street in the same vehicle. He was taken back to City Station where he recorded a positive reading of 0.174 and was arrested for driving with a suspended licence.
He will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on May 5.
About 4pm Monday (25 April) Belconnen police were conducting random breath testing in Charnwood where they stopped a 45-year-old woman from Kambah who returned a positive roadside reading.
The woman was taken back to Belconnen police station where she recorded a reading of 0.194 and her licence was immediately suspended. She will face the ACT Magistrates court at a later date.
Superintendent Mick Calatzis said he was astounded that the man attempted to drive his car a second time.
“We are doing our part but drink driving will not stop until the community, as a whole, decides that this is a completely unacceptable practice. All Canberra motorists should make it clear to family and friends that there is no excuse for drinking and driving”.
