Good thing we can make heat, light, and internets without the power on!
ActewAGL’s fault line reports the power should be on by 9pm. Outages in Acton, Black Mountain, Lyneham, O’Connor and Turner.
UPDATE: Power restored around 8:10.

Power outrages are a bugger if you use wireless at home. The internets is still there, somewhere, but it’s hiding in its hole and won’t come out.
I had a bit of an internet emergency during the blackout last night and was able to use my iPhone as a personal hotspot and then wirelessly connect my laptop to the phone’s connection.
Technology for the win.
You mean house alarms that have batteries in them for just such an occasion, and you can already call a number to report/find out about outages and they even give you an estimate of when the power will be restored.

UPS FTW
Absolutely, and if I had somewhere to stick it where the littlies couldn’t get to the buttons I’d put one on the home theatre too.

Glad power’s back on, since it was starting to get a little chilly around the edges, and not all of us have lovely wood-burning fires.
Also, it’s 2011. Why doesn’t Actew have a status page on their website yet? (Phone’s ok, but I went the website in any case to find the number. Why have the additional step?)
They might be opening themselves up for lawsuits if they did that.
Power outages usually mean no house alarms. All it would take would be some enterprising thieves to check the website for areas with no power…

It made for very interesting drinking times post-squash drinks @ The Front last night that’s for sure 🙂
Happily power wasn’t out for too long, but for us we were just about to sit down for dinner, so I guess the timing wasn’t too bad.
