A multi-agency search is underway for a fisherman missing off Batemans Bay on the NSW South Coast.
Emergency services were called to Batemans Bay Marina about 8 pm yesterday (Saturday 19 July 2025), after a fisherman failed to return from a day’s fishing trip.
Police were told a 56-year-old man left the marina about 6 am in an 8m Arvor cruiser. He was spoken to about 10 am but when he failed to return, emergency services were alerted about 7:20 pm.
Marine Area Command (MAC) immediately launched a search operation, with assistance from officers attached to South Coast Police District, Marine Rescue NSW and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
The search continued throughout the night involving vessels from Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue NSW, as well as a fixed wing aircraft and helicopter; however, neither the man or boat were found.
The search is continuing today (Sunday 20 July 2025), with similar resources further assisted by Surf Life Saving NSW.
