The ACT has recorded its fifth road fatality for the year after a man died more than a week after he was injured in a single-vehicle car crash.
Emergency services were called to Tralee Street in Hume, near the NSW border, at around 10 pm on 16 February following reports that a car had crashed into a pole.
An ACT Policing spokesperson said the driver, a 26-year-old man, was treated at the scene by paramedics before he was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The spokesperson said he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday (24 February).
“Major Collision team members are conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the collision and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” the spokesperson said.
The ACT’s fourth road-related fatality for the year occurred when a 24-year-old motorbike rider died at the scene after crashing in Giralang on 15 February.
On 17 February, an 89-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital after he was hit by a car driven by a 94-year-old woman in Lyneham.
